Piazza del Duomo or Piazza Paolo VI as it is currently called is one of the main square in the city of Brescia. The square overlooks the Broletto with the Torre del Pegol, the Rotonda and the Duomo Nuovo.

Broletto is the name of the Medieval Palace, it was built in '200. It was expanded later to incorporate the church of San Agostino. The façade of the very elegant building was restored in the nineteenth century. The term broletto comes from 'brolo' i.e. vegetable garden, the construction area was originally a vegetable garden with orchard. In the main courtyard you can admire a Botticino marble fountain from the '800 with engravings on the sides.

The Torre del Pegol or civic tower stands next to the building. The large balcony on the south side dates back to the 18th century while the large staircase to the east is embellished with beautiful frescoes. It still houses the prefecture, municipal and provincial offices.
La Rotonda, the Duomo Vecchio, is a beautiful ancient church that was erected on the remains of an early Christian cathedral. The entrance to the building is lower than street level and to enter it you need to go down the staircase.

The interior is very wide with high arches supported by large pillars. The funeral monument of Bishop Maggi with beautiful bas-reliefs is located in front of the entrance. Noteworthy are the towels and frescoes of the basilica, as well as the ancient organ of 1536 by Antegnati. Going down again you get to the crypt where you can still see columns of the original church.
This ancient church is very charming and welcoming.

More recent is the other religious temple, the Duomo Nuovo. It took two centuries to build it. The beginning was in the seventeenth century and in the long years of construction the style also changed. So the big building is a mixture of Baroque, Gothic and classicism. The great dome was the last part in 1825. Beautiful works of art embellish the interior and chapels.

Sirmione, the Scaligera Fortress

Sirmione is a well-known and very popular resort on Lake Garda, located on a narrow strip of land that stretches in the lake for 4 kilometers.

To visit it, you should leave your car on one of the many parking lots (also because the historic center is a pedestrian island) and follow the lakeside promenade for reach the Rocca Scagliera, which watches at the entrance of the village. The fortress, erected in the thirteenth century, is a very impressive structure, with more towers and the double crenellated belt. It is a notice of what awaits you inside the village, which you can access after crossing a small drawbridge under a large arch.

The old town isn't very big, so just wander around the narrow and picturesque alleys that have preserved their medieval look. If you feel tired you can stop for a bite to eat in one of the many restaurants, bars, trattorias and ice cream parlors, scattered among the alleys, streets and squares. After that you can resume your walk and visit the tiny Church of S. Anna, located next to the Castle and the Caves of Catullus, which with the famous poet have nothing to do with the famous poet . In reality these are the remains of a Roman villa that belonged to a Roman consul. The visit to the Caves is also very nice for those who are not really fond of archaeology, in fact the area of excavations offers the wonderful view of the lake.

Sirmione is interesting above all for another aspect: the spas, where inhalation treatments, massages, mud and balneotherapy are carried out and all this your body needs to relax. You can buy the simple ticket for a single day or one of the complete packages.

So if you decide to spend your holidays at Lake Garda you can't help but come to Sirmione. It could become your base, as it is an excellent starting point for all excursions in the area: from Lake Garda to the rich hinterland with not far away cities d & rsquo; art such as Verona, Venice, Mantua and Brescia.

Hike to the Tita Secchi Hut

The importance of this itinerary is twofold: on the one hand it is a pleasant excursion within everyone's reach, which reaches a picturesque corner of the Valle del Caffaro, a short distance from the well-known and frequented Passo di Croce Domini; on the other, it represents the important starting point (or arrival) of the trekking “Alta Via dell'Adamello”.
To avoid excessive repetition, in the description we considered to group the three possibilities of access to the Tita Secchi Hut, a few meters away from the characteristic Lake of the Vacca. The shelter has in fact replaced the old Gabriele Rosa Hut, now used as a winter room.
All the possible itineraries listed below are very popular, well marked, untiring and almost unmistakable.
Itinerary 1: from the Gaver. Once you reach the Gaver esplanade near the Nikolajewka Hut, in the upper Valle del Caffaro (altitude 1505 meters), we walk past the alpine church, and then touch Malga Laione di Sotto (1602 meters). Continuing on the always unmistakable track, you will finally reach the Tita Secchi Hut, at 2367 meters above sea level (2.15 hours from the start). The return takes place along the same path as the climb, and takes 1.30 hours.
Itinerary 2: from Malga Cadino This itinerary takes its move from Malga Cadino (altitude 1799 meters) along the road from Valle del Caffaro climbs to Passo di Croce Domini. We then walk north, first along a small road that later turns into a path, until you easily reach the Passo della Vacca (2355 meters). From the pass, in a few minutes you reach the Tita Secchi Hut, at 2367 meters above sea level (2 hours from the start). The return takes place along the same path as the climb, and takes 1.15 hours.
Itinerary 3: from the Tassara Hut in Bazena. This itinerary also starts near the Croce Domini Pass, but on the slope of Val Camonica, in particular from the Tassara Hut in Bazena, at an altitude of 1802 meters. Also in this case we walk north, reaching the Passo di Val Fredda (2338 meters). A long and restful crossing along the opposite side leads subsequently to the Passo della Vacca (2355 meters) and finally to the not far Tita Secchi Hut, at 2367 meters above sea level (2 hours) 1.5 from the start). The return takes place along the same path as the climb, and takes 1.30 hours.
