The churches of Brescia
Lombardy, Brescia, Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta
Italy is a very Catholic country, and everyone knows this... what may not be known is that the beautiful city of Brescia, in northern Italy, has a rich religious heritage and beautiful churches that deserve to be discovered and visited.
I recommend a visit to some of the most traditional and beautiful churches that are located in this city, among which there are: the Church of Sant'Agatha, built around the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, and preserves in its interior, beautiful frescoes; the Church of Santi Cosmo and Damian, saints known by the Brazilians (thanks to the traditional feast that bears their name, when children earn sweets), it houses beautiful works of art and a beautiful high altar of the 17th century.
And do not miss a visit to the old and the new Duomo; built on the ancient cathedral of the early Christian age, demolished between the eleventh and twelfth centuries. Its decoration is very simple, but at the same time it recalls the spiritual atmosphere of the Middle Ages. In its interior is the sarcophagus of the ancient bishop of the city, Berardo Maggi, who died in 1308.
Visit Brescia!
