Gorizia, border city
Friuli Venezia Giulia, Gorizia, Piazza Vittoria
To the northeast of the Italian peninsula, right on the border with Slovenia, I visit the city of Gorizia in the region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, a city unique in its atmospheres.
City with a slightly Hapsburg flavor, due to the long occupation of the Hapsburg of Austria who occupied the city since the 16th century for 400 years, it is a city with a thousand nuances. I
start my visit from the most famous monument in the city, the castle of Gorizia. To reach it I walk a long ramp that runs between the outer walls and the wall of the castle to reach the real entrance. I then entered the 16th century Court of the Lanzi where I admire the foundations of what was once a tower.
From here I access the Palace of Provincial States and the Palazzetto Veneto. I stop for a long break to admire the wonderful panorama that extends from here to the horizon, I remain fascinated and dreamy surrounded by the surrounding unspoilt nature and the sky of a blue intense.
I end my visit with the wonderful Baroque Cathedral of Gorizia which, built from the 14th century, was destroyed during World War I and rebuilt in 1924.
