If you require a hotel which serves your meal "à la Shirley Valentine" - that is on the brilliant blue beach - look no further than the Baia del Sorriso. The beach is one of the best in this country, it been given the prestigious blue flag - a sign of quality in Italy.
The hotel is almost totally surrounded by the sea. There are both double and triple rooms available, with and without balconies. You may also book a room with sea view. Please note there are economy rooms available, but even they have a sense of style. All the double economy rooms come both with air conditioning and an attic room.
At nearby Quercetano Bay the sea is so clear a blue that you may see the stones on the sea bed. There's also stretches of sand. As well as a small snack buffet there is also local delicacies available at Lunabanana. All the flavours of Tuscany are here, be they sea food or Florentine steak.
There is a spacious terrace too, if you do not wish to eat on the beach, but booking is usually required. There is also the Rosignano restaurant which provides fresh pastries in the morning. It is available to the guests at the hotel who wish to eat half board, as well as those on full board.
Further afield there is a Foodies Festival in April and a Fish Festival in June, the latter taking place at a nearby resort called Amatacaletta Castiglioncello, which consists of a series of sea huts. All in all, one of the best resorts of Italia.
