Excursion to the Franco Remondino hut from the Terme di Valdieri

We are in the heart of the Alpi Maritime Nature Park, the largest in Piedmont and one of the largest in Italy: twinned since 1987 with the adjoining Park French national team of Mercantour, forms a protected area of 100,000 hectares, which in 1993 obtained the European Diploma for the Environment.
The proposed excursion allows you to easily reach the Franco Remondino Hut, at the base of the wild and articulated southern slope of Argentera, in a great high mountain environment.
The wildlife aspect is also particularly interesting: you can see chamois, marmots, eagles, and with a bit of luck also the mouflon. Finally, the climatic influence of the sea, distant as the crow flies only about forty kilometers, favored the development of a particular “subMediterranean” flora, with species in some cases unique.
From the Terme di Valdieri (33 km from Cuneo) continue by car for a few more kilometers along the road that leads, exactly in the direction south, in the Valletta Valley, as far as the road is passable: Piano della Casa, altitude 1743 meters.
We then set out on the continuation of the road, which soon turns into a mule track, keeping on the right river slope of the valley.
Then the mule track bends to the left (east) climbing on the steep slope to a small shelf. After crossing a stream, on less steep ground you reach a crossroads, where it is necessary to follow the path to the left (continuing straight you would arrive at the Colle del Mercantour, on the border with France).
After crossing the stream, the path leads with numerous and tiring hairpin bends at the base of the rocky rise on which the refuge stands, reachable finally with a last steep stretch on the left: Franco Remondino Hut, 2430 meters altitude, 2 hours from the Floor of the House.
The return takes place along the same path as the climb and takes 1.15 hours.

I am Piedmontese by adoption and I boast of it, because in Piedmont we have almost everything: cities of art, small but enchanting villages, lakes and mountains where renowned ski resorts are located. But I don't want to talk about Sauze d'Oulx, Sestrière and other Olympic areas, but about a small locality agrave; located in Val Vermenagna, Limone Piemonte.

The name of the locality comes from a strong link with the French Riviera, because Limone Piemonte is located between the Italian Riviera, French Riviera and Piedmont. Given its location, the resort is filled in high season with Piedmontese and Ligurians, but its slopes are not as crowded as those of Sestrière.

In Limone you will have at your disposal 80 km of slopes for all levels: both for beginners and for the most skilled skiers and lovers of cross-country skiing . That is to say that Limone is one of two Italian resorts, together with Bardonecchia, to see the first sportsmen try their hand at the snow.

Here are tracks suitable for everyone: for children, beginners, challenging tracks. In addition, in lemon you can find tranquility for the whole family and for children there are numerous games like inflatable structures. Limone is the perfect place for family holidays accompanied by the little ones.

Snowboarding lovers find a snow-park here, both for beginners and for the most advanced levels in this sport. Instead, in summer, good sports skills can be evaluated in the 9-hole golf club located about 2 kilometers from the center of Limone. The greens are not very big, but they have numerous obstacles in the midst of an environment of pure nature. It will be very relaxing to return to Limone.

It is not to be underestimated is the fact that you can get to Limone by train. So when you're tired of skiing, you can take a sightseeing tour. The Cuneo-Ventimiglia-Nice railway line is used for local transport, but it has nothing to envy to the famous panoramic railways. Its route winds through beautiful landscapes, partly in gallery and partly on viaducts, transforming a simple train journey into adventure.

Even in Limone itself you will not be bored: a large number of shops and shops, restaurants, pizzerias, discopubs, bars, and other clubs ensure the fun after ski.
