In the beautiful resort of Salento, admired and loved by both Italian and foreign travelers and exactly in < strong>province of Lecce there is the city of Cavallino which is less than 10 kilometers from the nearby capital of province.

In this place, inhabited since the Bronze Age, an impressive city was built by the Greek populations coming from < Strong>Taranto.

There are many tourist attractions in the area, especially of historical and artistic character, that attract visitors to Salento. The construction par excellence is undoubtedly the Doge's Palace, a building from the second half of the fifteenth century ; which presents itself with its magnificent fifteenth-century entrance. The interior of the Doge's Palace is wonderful thanks to its typically Baroque architectural elements. Of particular artistic value are the gallery with the beautiful vault with the zodiac symbols, the arms room and the living room.
Not far from the city lies the Menhir di Ussano, monolith set on a hill in the place where in ancient times there was the ancient farmhouse of Ussano.

Another very special point of interest is the megalithic monument of the Mirror Sentina , the most important in size among the monuments of defense and surveillance existing in this territory having a height of about 3 meters. It would be a shame to visit Salento without going through Cavallino!

Cutrofiano A Town Well Known for Ceramics

Located in the province of Lecce in the region of Apulia in South eastern Italy, Cutrofiano has a history dating back to the time of the Roman Empire. It also has survived the destruction caused by the Turks during the 15th and 16th centuries. There is evidence to say that from the ancient periods this area has been producing ceramic products. It is believed the community got developed here due to the presence of clay required for the ceramic industry. The town experienced an exodus of people from there in the 60s due to better job opportunities being available in Germany, Switzerland and Belgium. However, when electricity, water supply and sanitation facilities were provided to the rural areas later, the living condition of the people improved and both agriculture and industries were developed. There are a few ancient sites that are worth paying visits in this town. A church dedicated to our lady of the snows which has been built in the seventeenth century and renovated many times afterwards is there. Another church with an octagonal floor which is called the church of the Immaculate Conception that has been built in 1772 is also a good attraction for visitors. Palazzo Filomarini is an ancient place which you could visit. Cutrofiano is well known for its artistic ceramics. For a long time the workers used to collect yellow clay available there and process it manually to create their artistic ceramics. However, with the emergence of machinery for the same purposes they are able to create better products with lesser effort. Some farmer’s weave baskets during rainy winter days and these are made out of shoots of olive trees and with cane. Cutrofiano is also known for wine production. Vineyards of its mountainous areas produce high quality grapes used for this purpose.

If you spend your holidays in Puglia and have already visited Lecce, you just have to go to Gallipoli is located just over 40 kilometers from the capital of the region.

Gallipoli is a historic town, rich in beautiful monuments, but its real treasure is consisting of the sea and beaches. Just walk the city's seafront, going south, to get immediately to Lido San Giovanni, often very crowded, but close to the wonderful Baia Verde.
In the ancient part of Gallipoli there is instead the Spiaggia della Purità, which takes its name from the nearby church, to which you can ograve; access from an alley that crosses the ancient city walls.

In this seaside resort you cannot fail to try fish and seafood, of which Gallipoli & egrave; famous throughout Salento. You can taste freshly caught every morning at the fish market, near the bridge that connects the old part with the new one.
Tourists, local customers, restaurateurs and obviously Gallipolini fishermen contribute to the characteristic confusion, so typical of the markets, who, among various species of fruits of sea, let the raw sea urchins taste, to try at least once. Absolutely not to be missed is the Regional Natural Park Island of S.Andrea and the coast of Punta Pizzo, magnificent coastal stretch rich in flora and fauna. Surely you will relax walking through the streets of the historic center of Gallipoli where, like in Lecce, you will find numerous Baroque monuments. Also visit the underground oil mill, interesting, because it is excavated in the tuff underground. And again the Angevin Castle, the symbol of Gallipoli.

Rich in historical monuments and characterized by a beautiful coastline on the Ionian Sea, Gallipoli - city founded by ancient Greeks - is one of the most sought-after destinations in Salento.

Located on the west coast of the Salento peninsula in the Gulf of Taranto and overlooking the Sea Ionian, the 'Kallé Polis' (beautiful city) is divided into two well-defined areas: the 'Old City' founded from the ancient Greeks and the “new village”.

The old town, today a fascinating historic center, is rich in monuments and architectural details that testify to its great past: the famous fortifications, the & amp; nbsp; or the Angevin Castle are an example of this. Built in the 16th century and about one and a half kilometers long, the fortifications defended the city from the attacks of enemies coming from the sea. The Cathedral of Sant'Agata with its beautiful facade of the seventeenth century and its frescoes and paintings, demonstrates instead the vigor of the Lecce Baroque.

But to these points of interest is also added the coast, among the most fascinating and evocative in Italy, formed by low cliffs and beautiful beaches of golden sand bathed by a very clear sea; not surprisingly the entire coast during the nice season becomes the scene of numerous parties and initiatives intimately linked to the sea, such as the cuccagna on the water that marks the apogee of Feast of Santa Cristina (24 July).
