Shopping long the Amalfitan Coast

After you have enjoyed visiting amazing sites in Amalfi and along the Amalfitan Coast, you may want to have fun with their traditional shops.

You should thus head to La Risacca to enjoy the boisterous environment where and talk about your experiences over you sip on bottled beer and garish cocktails. In case you are under attack of hunger pangs, bruschetta and pizza are available for you.

You will want to take a souvenir home to remind you of the experience you had in Amalfi. There are various shopping points that you can do your purchase in Amalfi.

You can begin at L’Arco Antico. The first paper mills in Amalfi were set up back in the 12th century to supply the republic’s little army of bureaucrats. Even though not much is made here nowadays, its quality is still excellent and you can buy it. This striking shop sells a wide range of paper products such as leather-bound notebooks, large photo albums and beautiful writing paper.

Medea offers will offer you the unique ceramics far much better than the ubiquitous variety of gaudy yellow fruit bowls. At this shop-cum-gallery-cum-laboratory, you are sure to find a captivating selection of original handmade lamps, vases, plates, figurines, animals and tiles. Quite outstanding are the enormous black and red vases by artist Ugo Marano. These cost a quite lump sum because one life-sized vase is expected to sale in the region of around 12000 Euros.

Profumi della Costiera is the place you need to visit if you wish to taste the awesome limoncello produced from local lemons. These lemons, commonly known by experts as sfusato amalfitano are huge and can be over double the size of a standard ordinary lemon. The drink is made using traditional recipes, thus there is no colouring or preservatives used. If you pay a visit to this place it is more fun to visit the bottling point right at the back of the shop.

Wine and Drugs. What is sold here is far from the literal meaning of the words used. You will find organic oil, grappa, a good selection of local and international wine and saffron. There are compliments of daily tastings of old Parmesan dipped in elderly balsamic vinegar.

Umberto Carro has a sumptuous display of locally made large ceramics that you would organise for shipment if you decide to buy them. The designs and colours are classy and subtle, and is a substantial range of these pieces available. They range from enormous urns to quirky, brightly coloured ceramics, minute eggcups and ornaments.

La Botteguccia de Giovanni is a reliable place to go for handmade sandals. You are at liberty to select the colour, leather decorative pieces and bits such as shells that you want. Let the craftsman know the desired size and wait while he makes them, while you enjoy a cappuccino. The prices for the sandals start at 50 Euros.

For lovers of fashion, you may want to head to La Bottega di Brunella. This shop is the premier reason why local women succeed in looking so chic. It is one of a handful of boutiques in Almalfi Coast where clothes are designed and made in Positano. Some of the boutiques usually import their clothes despite the deceptive labeling. The garments are made from pure silks and linen with diverse colours with earthy shades of yellow, ochre, cream and brown.

II Ninfeo is a spot love by tourists, where you will find an extensive collection of beautiful ceramics on the display. II Ninfeo has a massive showroom containing products that range from fridge magnets to giant urns. While inside you can ask to be shown the fascinating relics of a Roman villa beneath the showroom. This place makes you realise how much is concealed under this town.

Anastasio Nicola Sas is a place to buy excellent gourmet goodies gifts. Among the hanging hams, you will get a packed selection ranging from local preserves and cheese to chocolate, coffee, pasta in any imaginable shape, and limoncello.

Donna Stella is where you should head in case you need to taste Italian pizza. It is located under lemon groves, making it an ideal point to escape the heat of the day. Stella Maris is also found on the main beach front and offers very fresh and simple lunches of local food at affordable prices.

Grand Caffe overlooks the main beach and is a perfect place to grab a drink. It overlooks the sea and offers relaxing views up the coast as you sip your cappuccino. You will not feel the heat of summer when you are at this café.

The Amore Cycling Excursion is another exciting event. In every season, a customised and exclusively guided cycling exploration of the coast is offered. There is the option of a short and easier route as well as a longer and more demanding one for keener cyclists. This requires prior booking to participate.

The restaurants in Amalfi are just like everything else – great.

Osteria da Luisella has nice food and a great watching point in the atmospheric setting that makes it a winner. Take a table and sit back to enjoy some fresh seafood. Even though the menu varies, the octopus stew and the warm seafood salad are scrumptious.

Ristorante La Caravelle is another splendid restaurant to go for a meal. The regional foods offered with dishes of black ravioli with cuttlefish, ricotta and scampi have earned this restaurant a Michelin star. These meals are complemented by grilled or lemon leaves. In the event that you are a wine aficionado you will most probably get something to try on the label list.

Lo Smeraldino is another alternative if you want a reliable restaurant. This enticing blue and white beachside restaurant will serve you fish so fresh it almost flaps. It is an ideal place for fancy risottos and crisp-based pizzas. Smoked salmon and cavier as well as simple classics like poached or grilled local fish are common at this restaurant. The atmosphere is of profound elegance and it peaks during weekends.

II Teatro is a superb trattoria tucked away in the backstreets of the centro storico. Its old-fashioned interior is made of a sequence of arches and walls aligned with black and white photos with assorted knick-knacks. Food specialties include caper and olive oil sauce and swordfish in tomato, as well as vegetarian options that include pasta with aubergines and tomatoes.
