The style used was the Lombard style, according to the will of Astolfo, Duke of Friuli and his wife Giseltrude. Since 2011 it has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage List. Even though it has undergone some restorations, the frescoes remained in their original state.

It was born on the walls of an already existing castle that dates back to the second century AD. The original structure was damaged by a fire in 1918 and was then rebuilt. It is currently owned by the Canussio family and headquarters of the homonymous Foundation.

The first testimony written in some ancient texts dates back to 1160, with the name of Grunenberg. Since it had defensive purposes, it was erected on a hill. Nowadays we have received only a few remains, especially the upper part of the structure.
Attimis - Museums Museo Archeologico Medievale The museum was created to make known the daily life of the castles of the feudal era (X-15th century). It gives us an overview of that life and the most varied elements concerning the latter. The structure has a rare defensive masonry that can be chronologically assigned to the 13th and 14th centuries.

Construction and architecture have German origins. In the 12th century, the first document of the castle was found, which was highlighted and partly restored in the mid-70s. Over the past few years, many excavation campaigns have been organized, where various ancient materials have been discovered.
