This burial complex is located In the vicinity of the suburban cemetery of Pisa. In 1853 there were twenty tombs dating to the Iron Age. The Superintendence for Archaeological Heritage of Tuscany has worked on excavations from 1994 to 1998.
The works have unearthed a large Etruscan tomb-shaped mound dating from the period between the end of the eighth century and seventh century a. C.
This mound has a great depth of 4 meters and a diameter of 30 meters. The whole is surrounded by thin rectangular stones, around which were found large monoliths. It is thought that this was a tomb of an Etruscan prince.
