The Church of Santa Maria della Spina was originally a chapel dedicated to St. Mary Pontenovo.
It was in 1323 that had the shape of today, thanks to the noble families of Pisa, among which, the cooperation of the Gualandi family. Its name derives from the fact that here we keep a thorn from the crown of Christ.
The facade of the school reflects the exquisite work of Nino Pisano with statues, the Redeemer and angels. Inside the church is placed a small shrine by Stagio stage, where the relic is enclosed.
