Gagliano del Capo in Salento

Salento is the heel of the Italian boot and its coast is more than 250 kilometers long. Long and extensive white beaches but also very high and inaccessible rocks, caves to be discovered and wonderful views.

We are limited to a part of the east coast, along the Adriatic Sea between Marina di Novaglie and Santa Maria di Leuca, the extreme tip of the & rsquo; Southern Italy.

All that part of the coast consists of cliffs interspersed with beautiful natural caves. A real paradise for scuba diving enthusiasts. Fifty years ago, along that coast the coastal road was built that starts from north to Otranto and ends in Santa Maria di Leuca.

In certain sections of the route the roads did not exist because near the coast there were coves that were an obstacle for the traveler. Hills were leveled and bridges were built and one of these bridges is located in the territory of the municipality of Gagliano del Capo.

The bridge is built in a single span that overlaps the gully of the Ciolo and has a height of forty meters. Beautiful to get there from the sea by boat and fit between the two very high ridges that gradually tighten. The view of the bridge up there is spectacular.

The cove continues over the bridge and at the bottom you reach a small beach that forms the end of the bay. Equally interesting is getting there from the SP 358 road that passes on the bridge, you must stop absolutely, get off the car and get closer to the bluish.

Looking down you realize the impressive height of the bridge and the clarity of the sea water, which is perfectly clear and transparent. . This exceptional combination invites you to dive into the blue water and that's exactly what so many guys do.

Going down a little bit inward along the steps that lead down to the beach, there's a small space big enough for a couple of people.
