Cremona — Stradivari and nougat

Are the names' Sperlari 'or' Vergani 'familiar to you? No? Then you don't know what you're missing: they are two cremone producers of the nougat, a dessert based on honey, sugar and egg white whipped with toasted almonds or hazelnuts. Uhmmm, a real goodness born in Cremona in the fifteenth century.

The city is proud of it and organizes the Festa del Nougat, during which everything revolves around this sweet Cremona. In addition to this taste itinerary (which obviously is not limited only to nougat) Cremona offers an opportunity to spend a nice day in the name of the Middle Ages.

All the wonders of Cremona, as usual, are enclosed in the historic center. The most attractive place is certainly the Piazza del Comune, which combines some of the iconic monuments.

You can climb the highest bell tower in Italy, the Torrazzo. It is hard to climb 487 steps (and there are no alternative routes like lifts), but on the other hand you can admire a splendid panorama of the city, the Po River, and if you are lucky, even the mountains.

The Piazza del Comune is the heart of the city: the Duomo also overlooks it, together with the Baptistery, the loggia dei Militi and at the Palazzo del Comune. Here start small and narrow streets that then turn into a labyrinth. The

shop windows and shops located in the streets display the typical Cremona sweets between here obviously the nougat and violins reigns.

Not only do the luthiers' shops remind you that you are in the city of Stradivari. The famous Cremonese violin maker is linked to the Palazzo Raimondi, which houses the International School of Violin Making “Antonio Stradivari”, the Palazzo Affaitati where the Stradivari Museum, and finally the Gardens of Piazza Roma, the green lung of the center, where its tombstone resides.
