Castles in the area of Vallagarina, palaces and mansions

The Vallagarina area is rich in castles, towers, and historic houses, a strong testimony of medieval architecture. A dense network of manors spreads over the whole territory, in the plains, on the gentle hill slopes and perched on rocky mountains, surrounded by vineyards, beech and chestnut woods. Built in strategic positions, they dominate the surrounding valleys, often with mighty crenellated walls and lively interior decorations made on frescoed walls to recall the opulence of the local noble families. Many can be visited, still others used as private homes, and still others only ruins bearing witness to a glorious past. Discover with Visititaly, the fortresses, the villas, the forts, the historic buildings, the noble residences and all the places linked to culture that characterize the Vallagarina area. If you have visited a castle and would like to share your experience with others, please report it here!

Castello dei Sabbionara D'Avio

The Castle of Sabbionara D'Avio is a fascinating and very ancient castle known even before the 13th century. Ownership of the well-known Castelbarco family, it then passed into the hands of the Venetians, cardinals and other recognized personalities from various eras. You can admire a beautiful landscape that surrounds the castle of medieval architecture. The paintings represented inside the castle are of the Gothic-Veronese style of 14th century, as in the 'Chamber of Love', 'The Male' and in the 'Fighters' Parade.

Villa Lagarina - Castles, palaces and mansions

Castel Castellano

The construction takes its name from the location in which it is located. It was assumed that the castle was built around the thirteenth century. It has a massive structure consisting of an ancient tower and a residential building. Due to the collapses, the tower was lowered and therefore the original height does not match today. After the purchase of the Lodron family, it was transformed into a noble residence. It is currently privately owned.
