Chamois is perched high on a rocky mountain terrace with a fine southern aspect and it is the smallest of all the Alpine pearls. Only 100 people live in this settlement of unequalled charm 1,815 metres above sea level and directly below the towering peak of the
Matterhorn. The community consists of a number of hamlets sheltered from the wind and basking in the warmth of sun drenched steep mountain slopes behind them. This is a wonderful place to admire the unique rural architecture of the
Aosta Valley. Chamois not only provides superb walks and mountain bike tracks but also a great opportunity to take to the skies with paragliding of unique excellence. Chamois is truly quiet - an oasis of peace, you will certainly notice the deeply relaxing effect on your holiday up here at one with a natural environment and in any season of the year!
Chamois is the only community in
Italy that
cannot be accessed by car, it is only reached by lift, on foot or by bicycle. Sweep up to the heights with the lift! Chamois can be reached from Aosta,
Turin and Milan by train and the bus junction at Châtillon . From Châtillon take the regional bus service Châtillon/Valtournenche to Buisson. From Buisson the modern lift whisks you up to Chamois in only five minutes.
Bicycle hire and electric cars! Electric cars are at your service for transporting persons and luggage within the community - from the lift to the hamlets and
hotels and return. During the summer months mountain bikes and bicycles with electric motors await you.
