What to see Livorno: Tourist attractions, monuments and places to visit

Castles, palaces and mansions

Hotel Palazzo It was built in the second half of the nineteenth century by Bernardo Fabricotti. Located near the sea, in front of terrace Mascagni. The building features a facade with two towers. In 2008 the luxury hotel was reopened.

Churches and places of worship

Cathedral The Cathedral, dedicated to St. Francis, dates back to the the sixteenth

Jewish Synagogue This is one of the largest in Europe. The original synagogue has been damaged in World War II, so much that it was decided to demolish the former and build a completely new one. This was completed in 1962.

Sanctuary of Montenero The hills of Montenero is from the fourteenth century a place of pilgrimage. The present church was built in the eighteenth century, and inside are kept a significant number of ex-voto.

Streets and Squares

Piazza Grande The largest square in the heart of the city, where you see the main buildings of the city, like the cathedral and the Town Hall. During World War II it has been completely destroyed and later rebuilt with major changes.

Viewpoints

Mascagni Terrace The large panoramic terrace of the city lies directly on the beach along the promenade. It was built in the last century into two periods. The last part was designed by Pietro Mascagni, and completed in 1948.

Walls, towers and gates

Marzocco Tower The octagonal tower dates back to the early years of the fifteenth century. It was built by the Florentine masters of the castle. It is 54 meters high, and it is completely covered with marble.

Water spa and wellness

Spas - Acque della Salute Located near the main train station, the building dates back the beginning of the XX. century. Until the Second World War the spa was operating , in the '60s it was damaged by fire. The center should be renovated.
