In recent years, Scansano is back to being the center of the Maremma for its scenery and for its wine, the Morellino.
Infact, every summer, the city rediscovers the estatura: a practice in use since the Middle Ages according to which public offices of Grosseto, with all officials and their families, moved in the summer months, from the malarial plains to spend the "summer vacation" in the cool and salubrious hills of Scansano, harvesting. Today in the many homes of Scansano and in farm structures that populate these hills, there are no longer officers of Grosseto, but thousands of Italian and foreign tourists who are attracted to the Mediterranean charm of the Maremma in search of sun, the traces of ancient Mediterranean cultures and the rich flavors of this earth.
Morellino di Scansano is a wine that comes from afar and has an identity that is rooted in archaeological remains of a land settled by the Etruscans and Romans.
That is why an archaeological museum dedicated to wine was built in Scansano, more and more full of objects from "Ice Fort" or "Roman Villa" at Aia Nova.
In September, every weekend, the event "Morellino DOC and flavors” takes place, which sees the country as a stage of Scansano, a small town for the truth, with its medieval wineries and its many cottages scattered in the hills in the area (for oil, cheese, sausage),which is able to satisfy every type of tourist in search of flavors, colors and scents of Tuscany.
