Located in the Adriatic Coast, Molfetta belongs to the province of Bari in the Apulia region of Italy.

Its history dates back to 4th century BC. Remnants of a fishing village and the antique graves provided the evidence to this effect. However, the oldest document that relates to the city is from 925 CE.
In the 11th century the city was developed as a commercial port.

Present day Molfetta is known for its fishing, cement production, boat building and food processing industries. It also exports fish and vegetables. The city has a population of 59,933 inhabitants.
It has a Mediterranean climate which is moderate throughout the year.

The ancient monuments of Molfetta are well preserved.
Therefore it is worth visiting them in case you happen to be in this city. The circular cave that is 23 meters deep which also has its grottoes and old constructions is one of them. It is called the II Pulo and it comes from Neolithic times.
The Old Cathedral of Duomo of San Corrado is another monument that has been built during the 12th and 13th centuries. It has been built following Apulian-Romanesque style. Local stones have been used and the construction has been done on a basilica plan.
There are two towers of which one has been used as a watch tower. Each of the towers is 20 meters in height. There are several watch towers to visit. Tore Calderina is one of them built in the 15th century.
The New Cathedral which is also the church of S.Maria Assunta in Cielo which was built in 1610 is another monument to see.
Remains of the patron of the city San Corrado of Bavaria is left in this church in a Silver reliquary bust of the saint. It dates back to 17th century. There are a lot more monuments to be seen by the visitors who are interested in the rich heritage of this city.
