Legend has it that the famous cherry in the city are closely linked to the historical story of the Chess Game as to celebrate the wedding of the beautiful Lionora Taddeo Parisio, the mayor ordered that cherry trees were planted all over the place.
The festival, held since 1933 in Marostica, is part of a trilogy of events which also includes the Cherry Festival in Pianezze and the Red Cherry day.
The festival is usually held the last Sunday of May in the porch of the Lower Castle and it is home to the provincial exhibition of the best production in the area.
In 2002, the cherries of Marostica have been recognized the IGP by the European Community.
The local Mountain Community has also established a few years ago, "The road of the Cherry", a hilly course of which you should travel in the spring, during cherry blossom season. So don’t miss Marostica, its beautiful streets covered in white and grey checks, and the beautiful, red cherries of the place!
