Porto Antico

For those who start the visit of the city from Porta Soprana encounter immediately what remains of the house where Christopher Columbus lived.

The expansion of the city begins in 1000 when Genoa became one of the most powerful maritime republics, expanding its commercial and military dominance in all the Mediterranean Sea untill to the Black Sea, the power is achieved in the 1500's made of rich merchants, navigators that became the main financiers of the Spanish monarchy.

The grandeur of the time is still visible in Via Garibaldi and the tradition of the navigation is well evident at the Porto Antico. Over time, Genoa remained a open city, crossroads of cultures and peoples, shy and reserved but able to be gradually giving its visitors the charm of discovery.
